Legoland Florida

Lego have announced the opening of Legoland Florida on the site of Cypress Gardens in Central Florida.

It will be the largest Legoland to date and will create 1,000 jobs. It is expected to open in late 2011.

Universal U Select

Universal Orlando has announced a new ticket pricing structure called "U Select", in time for the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It follows a similar idea introduced by Walt Disney World in 2005, the Disney "Magic Your Way" ticket system and the idea is to encourage guests to visit the Universal parks for more than just a couple of days.

Eyewitness Walt Disney World Resort and Orlando

It follows their trademark style with beautiful colour artwork, photographs, cutaway drawings, a pull-out map and 3D birds-eye view maps packed into a compact format and runs to 208 pages. There are over 400 full-colour photographs, maps and illustrations in total.

It is split into several main sections; the first is a general overview of Central Florida. There is then a section on Walt Disney World Resort with details of where to eat and drink, information such as waiting times and height restrictions on each ride and the best time to ride (and when to avoid) or visit the parks. Rides are also ranked so you can make sure you do not miss the best ones.

The third section covers Orlando's other major theme parks such as SeaWorld, Discovery Cove, Aquatica, Universal Studios, Islands of Adventure, Universal Citywalk and Wet 'n' Wild.

There are also details of some of the smaller attractions including Gatorland, the Holyland Experience, Ripley's Believe It Or Not and a little further afield, the Kennedy Space Center.

If you are looking for evening entertainment then attractions dinner events such as Arabian Nights, Pirates etc. are covered along with other nighttime entertainment venues.

The final sections describe the rest of the central region, with details of where to stay, eat and drink (depending upon your budget), shopping malls, entertainment and sports, major festivals, scenic walks, drives and tours. There is plenty of practical information and there is even a few pages on getting married in Florida.

All in all, this is a great little book you can just slip in your pocket when you are out and about.

Note that most guide books are re-published annually so you can often pick up a bargain if you don't mind the previous edition.
