Despite more and more drivers using SatNav systems these days, a good old-fashioned road atlas is still a great addition to any journey or vacation. Whilst a GPS system will show you exactly where you are, a road atlas can give you the bigger picture and help you plan a route and spot places of interest along the way.

The Delorme Florida Atlas & Gazetteer contains detailed topographic maps at a scale of 1:150,000 (approximately 2.4 miles to the inch). This is a large atlas and each page shows an area of approximately 23 miles by 34.5 miles. The whole of Florida is spread over a total of 103 pages.

The maps show all major landmarks including county lines, information centres, airfields, State Parks, boat ramps, campgrounds, museums, fishing spots, public beaches, theme parks, botanical gardens, zoos, aquariums, golf courses, pari-mutuels (horse and greyhound racing) historic sites and other places of interest.

As well as a complete town index, the gazetteer also has details on all the main points of interest with telephone contact details and map reference (but no website addresses). It covers zoos and aquariums, theme parks, botanical gardens, wildlife parks, museums, historic sites, bicycle routes, saltwater fishing, freshwater fishing, horse and greyhound racing tracks, baseball grounds, freshwater springs and canoe trips.

There are also tables of parks, forests, recreation areas and campgrounds with details of facilities.

Finally there is a mileage chart to allow you to quickly calculate the distance between 34 major Florida cities.

Note that most guide books are re-published annually so you can often pick up a bargain if you don't mind last year's edition.
