Legoland Florida

Lego have announced the opening of Legoland Florida on the site of Cypress Gardens in Central Florida.

It will be the largest Legoland to date and will create 1,000 jobs. It is expected to open in late 2011.

Universal U Select

Universal Orlando has announced a new ticket pricing structure called "U Select", in time for the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It follows a similar idea introduced by Walt Disney World in 2005, the Disney "Magic Your Way" ticket system and the idea is to encourage guests to visit the Universal parks for more than just a couple of days.

An easy to follow and very readable guide to the whole of Florida

The introductory colour section sets the scene with where and when to go along with the authors own personal 'things not to miss' in terms of sights, events, food, activities and the natural world.

There is then a comprehensive 50 page Basics chapter giving you details on everything from pre-departure planning to getting around, travelling on your own or with children, food and accommodation plus company contact information.

The main guide splits Florida into nine regions from Miami and the Keys all the way up to the Panhandle and the Northeast. Each chapter starts with the highlights of the region and a regional map and then goes on with specific details of how to get there and then how to get around each of the major areas or cities within the region.

Each city or area is described in detail with lots of aside information on things to see and do such as the best beaches, theme parks, museums, state parks and outdoor activities.

A final chapter is devoted to Florida's history and the natural Florida. For film fans there are a list of films that feature Florida plus a list of books about Florida and its inhabitants, both factual and fiction.

Note that most guide books are re-published annually so you can often pick up a bargain if you don't mind last year's edition.
