Legoland Florida

Lego have announced the opening of Legoland Florida on the site of Cypress Gardens in Central Florida.

It will be the largest Legoland to date and will create 1,000 jobs. It is expected to open in late 2011.

Universal U Select

Universal Orlando has announced a new ticket pricing structure called "U Select", in time for the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It follows a similar idea introduced by Walt Disney World in 2005, the Disney "Magic Your Way" ticket system and the idea is to encourage guests to visit the Universal parks for more than just a couple of days.

Free Gift Card

Disney have announced a free Disney Gift Card with a value of up to $750 for selected 5-night/6-day non-discounted vacation packages booked by March 27, 2010 and used by June 3, 2010. There are different 'blackout' dates depending upon resort.

Florida Family Restaurants

There are plenty of alternatives to fast food restaurants such as Red Lobster, Sizzlers, Ponderosa Steakhouse and Golden Corral, particularly if you have children. Many of them offer 'all you care to eat' buffets for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

Portions in America can be large, but most restaurants are happy for you to share with others in your party. Just ask for however many forks you need.

Red Lobster

The Red Lobster seafood restaurants are a particular favourite of ours for a more special family meal. A little more expensive than the usual fare, but well worth it. It can get very busy (particularly in the evenings ) so it is worth making a reservation.

The extensive menu is mainly based around fish dishes, but meat meals are also available, especially the famous Surf 'n' Turf platters, which have fish and steak options.

Sizzlers

The Sizzlers restaurants are good value family eateries, which centre around an 'all you care to eat' buffet. This is not just a salad bar, but is quite extensive, including meat dishes such as chicken or meatballs, pasta including the childrens' favourite macaroni cheese, salad and fruit.

Ponderosa Steakhouse

Ponderosa Steakhouse restaurants are similar to Sizzlers in that you queue up, order and pay for your meal and then are seated. With Ponderosa, the 'all you care to eat' buffet, which contains over 100 items including desserts are included with your lunch or dinner entrees, and are available at an extra $3.99 with sandwiches. This is a very extensive buffet, but is not available as an option on its own.

Golden Corral

The Golden Corral® family restaurants boast the biggest and best buffet and grill available anywhere. Their famous Golden Choice Buffet® contains an array of hot meat options, as well as pasta, pizza, fresh vegetable choices, a salad bar and a selection of carved meats at dinner and on Sundays.
