Florida Seasons

Whilst Florida can boast year round sunshine, it still has distinct seasons but not the same as the more northerly American and European fours seasons; winter, spring, summer and autumn (fall).

During the winter months, Florida becomes home to thousands of snowbirds, mostly Americans from the northern States migrating south to escape the worse of the cold, the snow and the ice. Whilst it is not totally unheard of for there to be a light flurry of snow flakes the Northern Zone of Florida, it is pretty rare.

See the temperature charts and rainfall charts for the various regions to help you plan where and when to take your holiday.

Late November to April (Winter/Spring)

This can often be the best time to visit Florida as the day time temperatures are warm to hot with relatively low humidity. If you are staying in the Northern or Central zones then it gets a bit colder (particularly at night) in January/February so you may need to wear an extra layer of clothing in the evenings.

You may also find that a solar heated swimming pool is a bit cold so do check if you are renting a villa with a pool.

May

May is a transitional month as the temperatures continue to rise as it approaches the rainy summer season but the humidity is still pleasant.

June to early October (Summer/Autumn)

During the summer months, day time temperatures can hit the 90's °F (30's °C) with afternoon thunderstorms and the risk of hurricanes and tornadoes.

The least favourable time to visit Florida is probably late July/early August when it becomes very humid and close. However, this is one of the most popular times because of school holidays.

Late October to early November

From late October the temperatures start to fall back to more acceptable levels along with a reduction in the humidity making it a very pleasant time to visit though still with a risk of hurricanes.
