Universal Orlando announced a new ticket pricing structure called "U Select", in time for the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It follows a similar idea introduced by Walt Disney World in 2005, the Disney "Magic Your Way" ticket system and the idea is to encourage guests to visit the Universal parks for more than just a couple of days.

With the new "U Select" ticketing system you can buy a one, two, three, four or seven day pass to Universal Studios and Universal's Islands of Adventure theme parks (excluding separately ticketed events such as Halloween). The base ticket gives you admittance to only one of the parks on any given day whilst the park-to-park access (like Disney's "park hopper") allows you to visit both parks on the same day.

Whilst the one day one park adult ticket price remains the same at $79, the new two day pass has actually gone up in price by quite a lot. Once you go for a three day or more pass, then the effective daily ticket price drops. For example a four day ticket works out at around $34 per day. There are also savings to be made if you buy your tickets online.

The "park-to-park" option price varies depending upon the number of days you purchase. The more days you buy, the cheaper the upgrade price. For example adding the park-to-park option on a single day ticket costs an extra $30 whereas adding it to a seven day ticket only costs an additional $10.

Tickets are valid for up to 14 consecutive calendar days from the date of first use but unlike the Disney tickets, you cannot buy a "no expiry" option. If you buy at least a two day pass, then the ticket also entitles you to up to 14 consecutive calendar days admission to the paid venues at Universal CityWalk (excludes the AMC Universal Cineplex 20 and the Blue Man Group Show).

With the introduction of the new pricing structure, Universal have done away with previous promotions for week long passes. Previously a week pass would cost $99 whereas a new seven day pass (valid for up to 14 days) will now cost just under $170.
