Buying Walt Disney World Tickets

Magic Your Way Tickets

Disney typically raise their ticket prices each year in August (twice in 2006) and 2009 is no exception. In 2007 and 2008 they added $4 to the price of a one day ticket and in 2009 added $5. Multi-day tickets have increased by as much as $8 and prices for the Park Hopper, No Expiration and Water Park Fun & More options have also increased. However, you can save money by making an advanced purchase on 4 day or more tickets with the Park Hopper® option and/or Water Park Fun & More option.

From 2005, Walt Disney World introduced a new ticket package called "Magic Your Way" which gives you more flexibility in tailoring your theme park tickets to your own specific needs but can be quite confusing at first glance. It is well worth deciding exactly what you want to do on your visit before you buy your tickets; or you could easily end up buying tickets that you will not get full use of.

Mission: SPACE at Epcot

Mission: SPACE at Epcot

In essence, the Magic Your Way package works like this:

  • Firstly you choose how many individual days worth of visits you require (either 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10 days). If you just go for the Base ticket, then each day you are allowed admission to one park only (choose from Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Disney's Hollywood Studios or Disney's Animal Kingdom).
  • For an additional fee of $52 (plus tax), you can add the "Park Hopper®" option which allows you to "hop" between parks on any one day; for example you could visit MGM Studios in the morning, hop across to Magic Kingdom for the afternoon parade and then finish up at Epcot for the evening firework display. You also get use of the Disney transportation system (monorails, water launches, and motor coaches) between parks.
  • If you want to visit one or more of the other Disney attractions then you can add on the "Water Park Fun and More Pack" option for an additional fee of $52 (plus tax). This allows you additional day visits to any of the two Disney Water Parks (Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon), Pleasure Island, the DisneyQuest Indoor Interactive Theme Park, or Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex. You get one visit for each day of the multi-day ticket (except for the one day ticket where you get two visits).
  • In the past, unused days on multi-day Disney tickets never expired but starting in 2005, tickets automatically expire 14 days after their first use. If you want to have non-expiring tickets then you much purchase the "No Expiration" option which ranges from $18 for the 2 day ticket up to $209 for the 10 day ticket (plus taxes).

Multi-day passes

The price per day goes down considerably, the more days you buy but do bear in mind that unless you buy the "No Expiration" option, then any extra days you do not use will be wasted.

If you want to use any remaining unused days on another holiday then you must add on the "No Expiration" option.

Transferring tickets

Tickets are non transferrable and Disney have installed hand scanners to ensure that only the person who originally bought the ticket can use it.

Remember, if you want to hop between parks on any one day, then you need to add on the "Park Hopper®" option.

If you buy your tickets abroad, it is quite likely you will be offered different packages and options compared to buying them in the USA, such as 14 day or 21 day all inclusive tickets (see UK visitor tickets for more details).

Disney also offer single day tickets to the main parks and other attractions, annual passes and special Florida Residents tickets.
